Everything I do ...

Culture Snob Tag CloudI’ve begun to use the “tagging” capabilities of this site’s content-management system.

That should make Culture Snob easier to navigate by adding a tool that’s more intuitive. Until now, you were limited by the site’s search function and its tables of contents. Tags allow readers to find related material more easily, both within entries and in a site-encompassing “tag cloud.”

Instead of merely searching for “Atom Egoyan,” for example, you could go to the “tag cloud” page and click on “Atom Egoyan.” That would take you to a search-results page that will display all the entries that focus on Atom Egoyan. A simple search would return every entry that mentions him.

The tag cloud is a visual representation of what’s in Culture Snob. It includes all the site’s tags alphabetized, but tags with more entries are larger and darker. A glance at the tag cloud shows that more entries are tagged with “Reviews” than anything else.

At the end of each entry, you’ll find the entry’s category and tags. The category hyperlink will take you to its table of contents. The tag hyperlinks will take you to a search-results page showing every entry that shares the tag you clicked on.

The hard part will be tagging roughly 300 entries from the past three years. I’ve started the process, but it will take a while to finish.

My hope is that you’ll find it easier to get around the site using tags and the tag cloud.
